Federal Board (FBISE) Accounting help — done properly

FBISE Principles of Accounting (ICom Part 1 and 2) follows a remarkably consistent question pattern: every paper has one full set of final accounts (Trading + P&L + Balance Sheet), one journalising problem, and one bank reconciliation. The students who do well are those who can do these three in their sleep.

Exam format you'll actually sit

Objective + Subjective. The Subjective paper has ~3 'major' questions each worth 15-20 marks (one being final accounts). Allow 60+ minutes for the final accounts question.

Highest-yield topics (the ones that show up year after year)

  • Preparing final accounts (Trading A/C, P&L A/C, Balance Sheet) — always asked
  • Bank reconciliation statement
  • Journalising transactions
  • Cash book, petty cash book
  • Depreciation methods (straight line, reducing balance)
  • Partnership accounts (admission, retirement) — Part 2
  • Ratio analysis — Part 2

Drill these first. If you can't do every one of these cold, work through them with /explain or /problem-variants.

Common mistakes that quietly cost marks

  • Putting debits in credit column and vice versa — read the question slowly
  • Forgetting to bring down balances (b/d, c/d) when preparing T-accounts
  • Mixing capital and revenue expenditure in the trading account
  • Using net profit instead of gross profit in the wrong account
  • Skipping working notes — examiners want to see your reasoning

When you mark your past papers, tag each lost mark to one of these. The pattern reveals where to focus.

Realistic study plan

Do one full final-accounts question per day. After two weeks, you'll have the template memorised. Add ratio analysis and partnership in the last three weeks.
