CBSE Biology help — done properly

CBSE Biology Class 12 is mostly NCERT, line-by-line. The marking is so strict that paraphrasing too much loses marks. Our AI knows the exact NCERT phrasing and can show you which sentences are 'mark-bearing' — i.e. you must include them verbatim.

Exam format you'll actually sit

Class 12 Biology: 70-mark theory + 30-mark practical. Theory is 3 hours, 5 sections (A: 16 × 1-mark MCQs; B: 8 × 2-mark; C: 5 × 3-mark; D: 3 × 5-mark Long; E: 4-mark case studies). Class 10 Biology is part of the integrated Science paper.

Highest-yield topics (the ones that show up year after year)

  • Reproductive health + sexual reproduction in flowering plants — Class 12, always asked
  • Genetics: Mendel's laws, blood groups, ABO, Rh — Class 12
  • DNA replication + transcription + translation — Class 12 Section D
  • Human health and disease (immunity, vaccines, AIDS, cancer) — Class 12
  • Photosynthesis (light + dark reactions, Calvin cycle)
  • Respiration in plants (glycolysis, Krebs cycle, ETC)
  • Biotechnology principles (PCR, gel electrophoresis, recombinant DNA)
  • Ecosystem and ecology (energy flow, food chains, biogeochemical cycles)

Drill these first. If you can't do every one of these cold, work through them with /explain or /problem-variants.

Common mistakes that quietly cost marks

  • Using your own words instead of NCERT phrasing — costs marks every time
  • Diagrams without correct labels (use leader lines, not arrows)
  • Confusing reproductive structures in plants (anther vs filament, ovule vs ovary)
  • Missing the 'In humans...' qualifier when NCERT specifies a species
  • Treating Section D as Section C — long answers need more depth

When you mark your past papers, tag each lost mark to one of these. The pattern reveals where to focus.

Where to get real past papers

  • cbse.gov.in → Sample Papers (official)
  • Oswaal CBSE Question Bank (Biology Class 12) — the most-used PYQ compilation
  • Disha Publishers Chapter-wise PYQ for NEET dual-purpose prep

Realistic study plan

Read each NCERT chapter twice — first for understanding, second to highlight mark-bearing sentences. Then practice diagram drawing daily. Last 3 weeks: full PYP papers. NEET candidates: layer in 30 min of MCQs daily from week 8.
